  • What is the smartest thing to do with $1000 over three months to promote financial growth?

Posted by admin on April 22nd, 2010 and filed under smart growth | 7 Comments »

Citi has a 3 month account for an interest rate of 3.75%. Would this mean that I would gain $375 of interest in those three months? ($1000 x 1.375 = 1375.)

No No. 3.75% is $37.50 annual return. For the 3 months you would receive about $9.00.

    I have no debt.

Thats not a lot of money and not a lot of time, but a 3 month CD would be your smartest bet.

Ok i need to get this straight, does lifting weights stunt your growth?

Posted by admin on April 16th, 2010 and filed under smart growth | 3 Comments »

I asked everyone gym teacher and they all gave me different responses. I want a smart answer thats more than one word please. And can you tell me if its only specific excersizes or machines that do.

No, it does not stunt growth. This is a myth propogated by well meaning but uninformed coaches, parents and other adults. There is absolutely no scientific evidence to support this myth, but lots of scientific evidence showing weight lifting to be benificial toward good health of young people. Alternately, popular youth sports like soccer and football have shown consistent injury rates, some injuries being permanent, far beyond what weight lifting will do.

If you’re just starting out, go really light on the weights and get your form perfected. Injury only ever comes about from lifting with improper form or with weights that are too heavy. Find an experienced adult, or better yet, a decent certified personal trainer to show you how to lift weights correctly and safely.

All your workouts should be based on compound movements (exercises that utilize more than one joint), primarily bench press, squats, deadlifts, etc.. Free weights are always more effective than machines as machines restrict the body’s natural movement. You can use machines as well as isolation exercises to supplement compound lifts. Spend some time developing form before adding weight. Always use a spotter.

For now, you can do full body workouts, both upper and lower body on the same day. Give at least one day (48 hours) or more rest in between. As you progress and start adding some weight, you should consider a split routine where you do upper body one day, lower the next workout day, etc..

Professor Ed Hess discusses his highly acclaimed book “Smart Growth”

Smart Growth is the first book based on academic research that challenges the dominant Wall Street beliefs about corporate growth. Wall Streets beliefs that corporate growth should be continuous and linear, as evidenced by ever increasing quarterly earnings are not supported by scientific data or business reality. Likewise, the commonly espoused axiom that every business must “grow or die” has no basis in science or reality.

What are the best companies to work for in the bay area for an entry level marketer for learning & growth?

Posted by admin on April 14th, 2010 and filed under smart growth | 1 Comment »

I am a marketing intern at a good fortune 500 corporation the last half a year, however, I was told it is not a great co. in terms of becoming the best in marketing since it is very engineering focused and there is an extremely tight budget for all marketing activity. Can you name companies that help produce awesome marketing professionals in the bay area?
Secondly, would taking a job out of college in my current company be smart anyway since it is my first job and I cant be too picky?
    Thanks!

They are hard to come by as you heard. Check with an employment agency. They would know who needs what in that area.
